It’s Poetry Friday!
We’re celebrating with
Amy at The Poem Farm.
And I’m celebrating with POMELO BOOKS’
latest poetry anthology,
WHAT IS HOPE?
video © 2023 Patricia J. Franz
Last week, Robyn Hood Black wrote a beautiful review of WHAT IS HOPE? She and 39 other poets, many of them Poetry Friday friends and POMELO BOOKS poet/alums, offer a few ideas of where hope is hidden. I am honored to be included.

Curiosity, wonderment, and hope are the ingredients of childhood. ⭐️ I love the line, “Sometimes it sounds like silence, sometimes a sigh.”
Thank you, Joyce!
Yes, yes, it is a surprise! This idea of hope beginning in wonder gives me hope. Thank you for sharing your poem, and congratulations! xo, a.
Patricia, Congratulations on your dazzling poem, Wonder, being added to Sylvia Vardell’s and Janet Wong’s newest Pomelo Book. Hope is such a wonder-filled topic and I believe that kids will love it. I also enjoyed the video of your poem.
Patricia, Congratulations on your wonder-filled poem’s entry into Vardell’s & Wong’s newest book, What Is Hope? It is such a great topic for children to think about. I did love the video ad for your poem.
Patricia, this is the 3rd time trying to get my comment to post. Congratulations on your wonder-filled poem being published in Vardell’s & Wong’s newest Pomelo book. I also loved the video of your poem.
I’m so sorry you’re struggling with the comments, Carol. Typically I see them, even when -for whatever reason- you can’t. I think there is a delay in the posting. Anyway, that you for your patience!
Patricia, that video is mesmerizing! I love your poem – so full of wonder, hope, and amazement!
Thanks Rose! I hadn’t done one since the last poem, so I was a bit rusty in the process, but it came together!
Every part of the video fits so beautifully, Patricia. How fun to create it for your poem.
Sylvia taught us in their Poetry 401 workshop!
Congratulations! It seems like each volume is better than the last!
Janet and Sylvia do amazing things with these series, right?
Beautiful video, Patricia, and congratulations! I admire your sense of wonder, and you captured it perfectly in your poem.
Aww, thank you Tracey! See you soon on zoom!
Wonder…”kindles curiosity” is such a perfect image. Such a beautiful poem. Congratulations, Patricia!
Thank you, Denise. It felt like a good phrase 🙂
Your poem captures the essential essence of hope, Patricia. Congratulations on its worthy inclusion in this anthology. I have always appreciated the connection between curiosity and the kindling of hope.
…and add sacred time to sit and let imagination percolate… soon hope becomes possibility!
Patricia, what a great video! And your poem is beautiful. I particularly like how you used ‘what if?’ because it’s so often associated with racing negative thoughts, dread, anxiety when it could, in fact be used for so much good.
Thank you, Lou! I love that it evoked something new for you.
Patricia, your poem also reminds me of the beginning of a writing project or poem… the idea, the kindling, the curiosity… beginning in wonder. What a beautiful poem!
Yes! There’s always hope when we start something new?
Hooray! What a fabulous poem. Thank you for sharing and how this poem is part of a larger work that supports kids. LOVE it!
Janet and Sylvia do fabulous work for IBBY with these series!
Congrats and thanks for the wonderful video!! Looking forward to reading J&S’s latest anthology. 🙂
Thank YOU, Jama!
Congratulations to you, Patricia, for adding a touch of wonder to this new anthology! I appreciate your light touch with the rhyming.
You know better than many how young children want/need/love/read/write poetry – so I appreciate your comment!
I love how hope can sneak up on you! Again, so excited to have a poem alongside yours in the same anthology.
It may be the worst thing a person could ever feel … no hope! I can’t imagine it!
Congratulations on publication! That’s a great video, too.
Thanks, Susan! And thanks to Sylvia and Janet for sharing the video-how-to’s!
Congrats on the new book, Patricia!
Thank you, Anastasia!
Congrats Patricia, love your poem, you packed so much wonder into that small poem of hope!
I love this poem. Thank you!
