A Wrapped Refrain?
I found this great definition and guide for a wrapped refrain at Shadow Poetry. And I love the element of combining the wrapped refrains to create the poem’s title!
My goal was to combine the rhyme scheme (aa-bb-cc), syllables (8-8-8-8-12-12), and a natural sounding meter (I chose iambic) — and still be somewhat entertaining. After researching my chosen narrator, the Gila Woodpecker – a stunning desert bird who mates for life and lives in saguaros – the words showed up.
