The Nevermores …

With a nod to Edgar Allen Poe, the name for our poetry group, is a reminder of life’s fleeting moments and thus, why poetry is important: it is a way for us to treasure the unrepeatable nature of a moment, a one-time encounter.

There are five of us. Rose, Marcie, Erica, Ryan, and me. Last week, Erica charged us with the prompt: write about a piece of furniture!

If you’re inspired, join us! Leave your poem (or a link) in the comments!

Belonging

squat pot and top
this basket of wicker,
significant in size
like you
one-time safehaven
for skeins awaiting arms,
a tether to become
balls of colored yarn;
needle and pattern
imagined future sweater,
knit one, perl never
unfinished pieces
like you
sitting pert
attentive
ever nearby
barely considered
till one long look inside
now it is mine
collecting stray
magazines I can’t throw away
–the ones I promise to read
but forget to–
holding an occasional drink,
the appetizer dish;
it wants to belong
like you
