Poem

The Nevermores …

Edgar Allen Poe most certainly inspired the name for our poetry group, though we have chosen to put our own twist on it.

“Nevermore”  is a reminder of life’s fleeting moments and thus, why poetry is important: it is a way for us to treasure the unrepeatable nature of a moment, a one-time encounter.

There are five of us. Rose, Marcie, Erica, Ryan, and me. We share time and words and encouragement each week, with a poetry prompt.

Last week’s prompt is at left: A List Poem. My contribution is below. If you’re inspired, join us! Leave your poem (or a link) in the comments!

Sometimes We Nap

Wake with the sun,

grin on my face

stretch, shake,

wake the house,

begin the relay race:

breakfast,

brushing,

backpack,

ballcap;

off to school and work.

Before my chores

I hit the floor and

sneak a little nap.

Then…

read the paper,

plump the pillows,

clean the kitchen floor,

stow your slippers,

take out trash,

supervise the cat (some more).

 Remake the bed,

find your socks,

check out what’s for dinner,

watch the window,

count the cars,

chase robins from the garden spinner.

Inspect the drip line,

pull some weeds,

and while I’m out, I see:

that porch! the sun!

I believe they need my company!

While you’re off at work and school,

my days are full of chores.

So, while I wait for your return,

I’ll nap a little more.
