It’s Poetry Friday! Spend part of your weekend eavesdropping on some amazing poetic sharing between friends!
Linda at A Word Edgewise has the round up (which is to say, all the links)!
Where would the world be without poetry friendship?
Emerson and Thoreau; Wordsworth and Coleridge; Frost and Thomas; Bishop and Lowell…
Not that I am familiar with the particulars of their connections, but who knows?
Maybe someday a word-paleontologist will stumble upon dusty archival ones-and-zeros – a future’s digital hieroglyphics – and they will marvel over the abundance of poetic friendships found in something called Poetry Friday. They will wonder of wordsong, of support and affirmation. They will discover the criss-cross of connections beyond countries. They will raise up and praise up the shared gifts offered heart-to-heart.
an abundance of care by way of Linda Baie
One of these will be a shower of care from Linda Baie to me, Patricia Franz.
A handwritten note acknowledging our common bond: a love of nature;
words printed and bound of haiku and wildflowers;
precious printed paper (they will dwell for a time on the idea that words were handwritten even then!);
a handmade box full of snipped and clipped words – for the joy of creating more art (which I promptly partook of);
and a collage acknowledging my “happiness” – including a doghouse, a bear, lake, trees, birds, flowers, and beloved mountains.

When this future archaeologist finds this treaury, they will announce to the world:
I know what PF stands for!
Amen! I love poetry friendships…and I’ll get together with poets any day. I do like the “pen pal” feel of communicating mostly through poems and e-mails. There’s something to that that slows me down in a good way. Your gifts are wonderful and so thoughtful. The two of you make excellent poetry friends–who know that life is NOT WATERPROOF. The truth of that made me giggle.
I loved having pen pals as a youngster. You’re right…perhaps that’s the delight in our poetry swap.
Hugeness of the Heavens is right! Linda has given you a charming resource. So glad for poetry friendship!
And thank you, Tabatha, for organizing us!
What a lovely gift! I agree, poetry friendships are the best! “hugeness of the heavens” – yes!
And I love ours, Rose!
Thanks for the shout for our friendship from PF, Patricia, also, by the way, your initials! It was a gift to gather for you and lovely to receive yours. Happy summer in the woods!
I do love the initials!
I love these poetry friendships. When I was a child I had a penpal. I see Poetry Friday to be like that in a way. I love the handmade box, Poetry swaps are the best!
The box is simply wonderful! So delicate and beautiful!
I love poetry friendships and your post has me thinking about my poetry connections to so many people who also participate in Poetry Friday. To think about all the ways we have met or come together in person and online is truly serendipitous. I love “life is not waterproof.” What a great line!
Grateful for ours, Marcie!
Poetry friendship is a wonderful way to speak of Poetry Friday. It is our sanctuary of thought each week where gifts come from the heart to the pen to the host of writers. Patricia, your thoughts are always gifts that inspire the writer inside. Linda’s gifts are creative nuggets of writing love and yours to her. Life is not waterproof. It spills over time like the raging waters.
“gifts..from the heart to the pen…” Yes!
Thanks for allowing us peek into your friendship poetry exchange, Patricia. “LIFE IS NOT
WATERPROOF”, amen to that! 😉
Those are Linda’s words! Beautiful!
It feels like such a blessing to be able to peek in on all the wonderful gifts you’ve created for each other in the Summer Swap. Thank you!
It’s already a joy, and this was just the first one!
Such nice poetry presents! Thank you for sharing them with us. Poetry Friday is indeed a gift.
Like Christmas all year!
What treasures from a treasure of a friend. Linda is a gift. Enjoy!
I am grateful to be a part and to be connected to these treasures.
What a wonderful exchange you two had!
