Cinquain – “sing-kane”
I’ve been creating cinquains almost daily for the past year with one of the more wonderful Twitter communities (courtesy of @AlexPriceWriter). All this time I’ve been pronouncing it “chin-qwain” – oops! It’s one of my go-to morning poetry warm-ups.
Five lines:
Line 1: 2 syllables
Line 2: 4 syllables
Line 3: 6 syllables
Line 4: 8 syllables
Line 5: 2 syllables
And, something else I didn’t know (according to Robert Lee Brewer) “poets have the freedom to add or subtract one syllable from each line.”
