To every thing there is a season..
Whether you recognize these words from sacred scripture or find yourself singing, Turn! Turn! Turn! you likely understand the sense of giving way to time. Time to weep, laugh, mourn, dance… Well, I have been dancing -at weddings!Â
These are light-up shoes gifted to me and my sisters from one of our sisters. After the ceremonies, dinners, and photos, when the wine is flowing and the music swells, we change out of our stilettos and get comfy on the dance floor!Â
This past weekend, we celebrated the new Mrs. Harris. Four down; two to go!Â
The next wedding is early August. My son will marry his fiance, the daughter of friends of ours for 25 years! We drove away from the Harris wedding and rolled into planning theirs. And we marked it with a tree-planting: a Sugar Pine seedling.
Just as this seedling will need care and tending to its soil, so do we all! To everything there is a season… a time to rest!
To everything there is a season,
and a time for every purpose under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Oh, my goodness, those light up dancing shoes are amazing! It sounds like you all do weddings right! Now, you have the next almost two months to plan for the next wedding. Then there will be a little more rest time, I imagine. All the best to your son and his special future wife! I love that picture of them looking so nurturing over that sweet little seedling.
Especially sweet because he’s a forestry guy 🙂
Best wishes to all the couples, Patricia. What a summer it is for you, celebrations after celebrations & with light-up shoes, too! Love the ‘time to’ poem, one to keep always! PS – my son & family have two wonderful Bernies! We love them!
I remember you telling me about your grand-Berners, Linda. They are the best!
I am loving watching your year of weddings, Patricia – and those shoes are amazing!
Now I see why little kids love light up shoes!
Those shoes are the best. What fun that would have been – for you all, and everyone around you, too. I love it! (I can see I need to go scrolling back and find more of your weddings. It sounds like a joyful busy year!)
joyful, silly, busy year!
Thanks for these celebration photos… I’m so glad you have such a full calendar of celebrations! And the needed rest. The words of Ecclesiastes … such wisdom.
Don’t you love that it became such a big folk hit?
I love, love, love your light-up dancing shoes!
Yeah, they’re very fun – and very reflective (pun intended!) of the sister who gifted them
Patricia, I love hearing about the weddings. The young brides must be so happy and exited and of course, your son the groom. The light up sneakers are adorable and must make a fun statement piece on the dance floor. A a tree-planting ceremony sounds like a great idea to begin the growth of a beautiful marriage. As I read the through the Ecclesiastes lines, one caught my eye to fit my own time period: “a time to mend”. Starting Monday, we are going on our family trip so I can soak in the sun rays and luxuriate on white sands and beautiful blue water. May the next few weeks be filled with joy.
Ahh, Carol! Enjoy your family time!
How fun to have those light-up shoes for this special season. What a sister! It’s definitely a time to laugh, dance, embrace, and love for your family. Enjoy every moment. I love the act of planting the seedling, a wonderful metaphor for their love and relationship which needs tender care.
The light-up shoes exude F-U-N –and no better place to enjoy them than a wedding reception!
So much joy in this post! I admit, I was singing “turn, turn, turn” in my head. 🙂
It’s a favorite song of mine!
Those shoes are to die for, Patricia! Love that so much! Sisters are the best.
