It’s Poetry Friday!
Come see what Tabatha at The Opposite of Indifference has in store for us!
By the time you read this, the summer solstice will be behind us. But I type this within hours of the precise moment when it occurs: June 20th, 1:50pm. What I am most looking forward to is the first full moon which I will see tomorrow evening: June 21st, 9:08pm.
I’m also whispering a small prayer of gratitude for the unknown-to-me people who calculate these things for us. Thank you, Farmer’s Almanac for inspiring this poem:
full moon june
night after night a planet turns
spring-to-summer
flowers form, fruit fattens
filament glows
a meridian thought subdued
waxes, waits to bloom
strawberry solstice moon

Yes to a strawberry solstice moon! Hooray for summer!
So much joy in this season, right?
What a pretty poem! I love that fattening fruit and thought waiting to bloom. I wrote a Farmer’s Almanac-inspired poem once– it’s a great source 🙂
Definitely will return to the Almanac for future inspiration.
So lovely! I could practically “taste” the alliteration of “flowers form, fruit flattens”!
taste of summer, right?
And you’ve reminded me to look for that strawberry moon tonight! Love the full moon june title. Lovely poem!
Thank you, Ramona.
Patricia, here’s to those scientists who calculate those details. Thanks for the reminder of the moon tonight. (I enjoyed it last night, and thought maybe it was full last night.) Now, I’ll get to enjoy it again. I hadn’t heard that it was called a strawberry solstice moon–what a great name.
I love thinking about those scientists who did their calculations by hand, on paper!
The alliteration in your poem is wonderful, Patricia. I’m looking forward to the strawberry solstice moon tonight, too!
Did you see a bit of red? I think I did!
Your poem ‘reads’ so nice, Patricia. I read it first, then tried it aloud – beautiful! I also looked for that wonderful moon. Finally, the clouds parted!
Just in time! We got to sit under it for a bit.
Beautiful, natural use of alliteration – and wonderful flow. A well-rounded poem!🌕
Thank you, Kat.
I love the double meaning in the “meridian thought” line. Is meridian the adjective describing the thought, or is the moon the meridian we thought was subdued?
gosh, I can see how it could be read both ways… already I’ve forgotten!
This is a lovely, lilting piece, Patricia. “Strawberry Solstice Moon” sounds like the title of a picture book. ❤️
Yes –now I just need a story! lol
Wow–this is a luscious poem, Patricia! Bursting with wonderful words!
Thank you for the kind words, Laura.
What a lovely tribute to the moon, the solstice and the magic of seasons.
Thanks, Sally. I wonder if the moon tires of our adulation… lol
Such nice alliteration in your small moon poem!
Thank you, Margaret.
Oh, how we live for summer, especially my fellow Canadians and I – it’s so short, and so, so sweet.
It takes a special body to be able to live in cold!
Beautiful poem Patricia, each line seamlessly melts into the next, and such a lovely-image ending, thanks!
