Haiku (or hokku)
I love this poetic form! The restricted syllables and lines (typically three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables) challenge me to be essential in my words, while still conveying a specific moment in time.
Enjoy!

Patricia Franz writes picture books and poetry. She believes children, dogs, and sourdough have a lot to teach us about life, joy, and wonder. She has raised two boys, four dogs, and holds a master’s degree in Theology with a focus on children’s spirituality. Patricia, her husband, her Bernese Mountain dog, Bonny, and her sourdough starter split their time between the Arizona desert and the Sierra Nevada mountains.
How could I have lived in NM for 6 years and never heard of a Chuckwalla, let alone seen one! Nice job with your haiku! My favorite is Healdsburg.
So nice of you to read through all of them– Thank you!
And yes, chuckwallas! I had to corner one and use a broom last summer to sweep it OUT of my house (leaving doors open in the desert is a risk!)
All your haiku are great! My two favorites are Yellow Season and Tree Bow. I enjoyed your haiku. Thank you for sharing.
Haiku has become a favorite poetry exercise! I’m always inspired by my surroundings, but truthfully, the #haikusaturday twitterverse is a great prompt, too!
